Script

The Script page is a collaborative screenplay editor with industry formatting, versions, and direct links into the shot list.

Open a project and click Script in the sidebar.

The editor formats standard screenplay elements: Scene Heading, Action, Character, Dialogue, Parenthetical, Transition, Shot, Centered, Section, Synopsis, Note, and Dual Dialogue.

  • Typing patterns are recognized automatically: a line starting with INT. or EXT. becomes a Scene Heading; endings like CUT TO: become a Transition.
  • Change an element’s type with the inline element picker in the left gutter, which offers the eight core types with Alt number shortcuts, or right-click a block for Change Type. The remaining elements come from typing patterns and imports.
  • Select text for the format bubble: Bold, Italic, Underline, Add Comment, and Create Shot from selection.
  • The block right-click menu also offers Add Comment, Add Beat, Split Scene Here, Duplicate Block, and Delete Block.
  • Multiple people can edit at once; you see named, colored carets for collaborators.

Click the Title Page chevron above the script to expand the title page: title, subtitle, authors, based on, contact fields, and an optional image. Title page data is used on PDF exports.

Drag a file onto the editor (the overlay reads “Drop your script here”) or use Import file in the mobile menu. Supported formats: .fountain, .fdx, .pdf, and .txt. Imports replace the editor content with the parsed screenplay and report how many elements were imported.

The Contents chip (or Cmd [) opens the left drawer:

  • Contents tab: the scene list, parsed from your scene headings. Click a scene to jump to it.
  • Drafts tab: versions. Save version snapshots the current draft with a name. Large edits also snapshot automatically. Each version offers Preview, Rename, and Delete; from a preview, Restore this version brings it back (a safety snapshot of the current state is taken first). Up to 50 manual and automatic versions are kept.

The Inspector chip (or Cmd ]) opens the right drawer with Beats (pin a beat board document for reference), Comments, Notes, and Stash tabs.

The Display popover has Page size (US Letter or A4), Zoom (50 to 200 percent), and toggles for Page breaks, Scene numbers, Word count, CONT’D on splits, and (CONTINUED) on scene splits, plus Spellcheck settings (Enabled, Auto-capitalize, Language with seven languages).

  1. Select the text that describes the shot.
  2. Click Create Shot from selection in the format bubble.
  3. In Create Shot from Script, pick or create a Scene, adjust the Shot Tag, confirm the detected Character, edit the Description, and click Create Shot.

The shot lands in the Shot List linked to this script line (the shot row’s Reveal in Script action jumps back here). If the project has no scenes yet, From Script generates scenes from your scene headings first.

The Lock chip locks the script for shooting: editing, importing, and restoring versions are blocked, while commenting and creating shots from selections stay available. Click Locked again to unlock.

Create Markup in the top bar renders the script into a markup document, a canvas where you draw annotations over the script pages. From a markup document you can convert your circled setups into shots. See the Documents guide.

The Share popover offers Export PDF with a format choice: PDF, Fountain (.fountain), Final Draft (.fdx), or Outline (.txt), plus the page size. See Exports and PDFs.

  • Offline, the editor keeps working and shows “Editing offline. Changes will sync when you reconnect.”
  • Viewers get a read-only script and can still comment.
